Connolly Cup 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte GAA will hold its annual Connolly Cup Tournament on June 27th, 2015. The Charlotte James Connolly Club has been hosting the Connolly Cup since 2001, and in the past has seen teams from St. Barnabas in New York, the Cayman Islands, Philadelphia, Orlando, Tennessee, Charleston, DC, Baltimore and Atlanta compete.
The club is proud to host the largest tournament in the Southeast with teams competing in Ladies’ and Men's Gaelic Football. Connolly Cup is pleased to pass on the love of Gaelic sports to a new generation of players by offering a youth coaching clinic in Gaelic football - all ages are welcome.
This year’s Connolly Cup will be held at the Rugby Athletic Center (3722 S. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28217). The Charlotte men will be looking to retain their Connolly Cup title from last year. Having reached the lofty heights of becoming National Champions in 2013, Charlotte James Connolly will face a hugely tough draw this year with competition coming in the form of Atlanta, Raleigh, DC, Baltimore and the newly-formed Winston Salem side, who will be looking to hit the ground running. The Charlotte Ladies will be looking to strengthen their grip on a trophy they have held in recent years. Fresh off a truly captivating run to a National title in Boston last September, which put them at the top division in the nation, the ladies in green will square up against old foes Atlanta and Philadelphia, and new to Connolly’s Cup, Raleigh.
Overall, the Connolly Cup will act as a huge stepping-stone for all clubs involved with highly competitive action as they look to build some momentum ahead of the North American County Board’s National Championships this September in Chicago.
Connolly's Irish Pub (East 5th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202) will host the after-game festivities for players and fans alike. They are excited to welcome everyone for live music to entertain all on what should be a night not to be missed.
